Thank you to all those who took part this month, it was a much better turnout than previously. However, our quantity did not match our opponent's quality. Steve, Ian and myself managed to score 1645, but High Weald managed to amass 1771. Well better luck this month for the final round of the year.
This month saw us produce our best score of the year with Steve, Geoff and Will amassing a total 1655. Unfortunately we were up against one of the top teams in the division, Wilford Archers who scored 1733. Lets see what next month brings.
We were up against Goldcrest Archers "B" this month who scored 1573, but Steve, Will and myself managed between us to score 1641 so taking the win. This now elevates us to fourth in the division. Well done.
The results for the 2016/17 competition have just been released and we came 6th in Division 9 of the Recurve competition. Should we wish to take part next winter I estimate we would be placed in Division 12 with a target score of 1640.
The Cricket Cup match scheduled for Tuesday 13 June has be cancelled because the opposition team have conceded the match, so we have use of the field again for shooting.
Sorry for the late notice but the Cricket Section let us know as soon as they could.
Well the outdoor season has started and the first round of the Selby Postal League has been shot. Unfortunately, we have not got off to a good start with a score of 1576 for the Short Metric round, shot by Steve Prinn, Pete Todman and myself, against Royston Heath "A" who scored 1604. Lets hope for better conditions for next months round.
Last night at the Long Marston Village Hall AGM the constitution of the 250 Prize Draw was changed to omit the drawing of a bottle of Whisky as it no longer has the effect of enticing usage of the Hall as it once did. So for next year and thereafter there will be no Whisky draw at the monthly meeting. However, we were still in the current period so there was one more draw to do and guess what to the delight of the Villagers Ebor Archers won the bottle of Whisky again!!!!, a fitting end to the arrangement.
I will as usual raffle off the bottle of whisky at £1 per ticket, so let me know how many you want.
I will be contacting all existing ticket holders to collect or otherwise your fees for next year's subs for the prize draw in due course.
The Cricket section have a cup match on the evening of Tuesday 13th June so there will be no shooting on that evening. I will negotiate another evening for us that week and let you know in due course when that will be. We will be shooting on the evening of Thursday 15th June as usual.
The course starting on the 16 May is now full the next course will start in mid June. Anyone interested in participating on this course please contact Ray as soon as possible.
I have received the paperwork for this years Selby Summer Postal League and we have been seeded into Division 4. The matches will take place one each month from May to September and our team will be selected from the highest 3 scores shot each month. The round to be shot is a Short Metric, so get your sight marks of 50 and 30 m sorted early ready for the first match in May. Our target score for the division is 1700.
We have received 5 requests for places on the beginners course. It is likely this will start on Tuesday 16 May at 6.45pm and last for 6 weeks. If you know anyone who is interested in joining the course please let me know.
The club has done well in the April round of the Long Marston Village Hall 250 Club Prize Draw. One of the Ebor Archers tickets won first prize of £80 to swell the club funds and Carol won £10. Two popular wins with the villagers!!!!
The Yorkshire Clout Weekend was hosted by the Archers of East Riding at Hutton Cranswick, on behalf of the Yorkshire Archer Association. Geoff Ingleby and myself were amongst the medals. The weather was against us all weekend with strong variable cross winds on the Saturday for the World Archery Round and a breeze and rain for the Yorkshire Championships on the Sunday.
Despite the conditions Geoff came 2nd in the Barebow class on Saturday and 2nd in the Yorkshire Championships on Sunday. Whilst I was 2nd in the Recurve class on Saturday and 3rd in the Yorkshire Championships on the Sunday, along with winning the Best Gentlemen's Clout Award.
Our March match was against Bowmen of Birstall "A" and although Steve, Ian and myself put in our best team score of the season with 1653, we were pipped at the post as Birstall who scored 1670.
Unfortunately, this means we have lost all our matches this year. Lets aim for better things next year.
Now that our website is up and running, it would be great if you could help us to spread the word about it. One of the ways that you can do this is via social media on this "News" page. If you have a Twitter or Facebook account, for example, you could "share" a post /photo on your Twitter feed or "like" one on your Facebook timeline. (To do this, you just need to click on the share icon at the bottom right of a post, and then click on the relevant social media icon).
Or alternatively just click the heart symbol to "like" a post on this "News" page…..or add a comment where it's available (e.g. on 'Pete's Robin Hood' post).
The more people that do this, the quicker the word will spread.
We will be starting outdoor shooting on Tuesday 4th April 2017 at Long Marston. On that evening we will assemble at Askham Bryan College at 5.45pm to transport the equipment back to Long Marston. Thereafter we will shoot on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Long Marston. The start time during April, given the limited available light, will be dependant on how early members can arrive. But from May onwards I suggest we formalise the start time as 6.30pm so we all arrive together to set out the field.
How about this with a training bow and club arrows.
The last nights for indoor shooting at Askham Bryan and Long Marston will be on Monday 27th and Thursday 30th March 2017. We will start shooting outdoors at Long Marston on 4th April. Details of moving equipment from Askham Bryan to follow.
I have now received the February results from our opponents Holbrook Archers A for the BA Postal League. We scored 1633 with 180 hits and 65 Golds, they scored 1633 with 180 hits and 69 Golds so I congratulated them on their close win. In reply their organiser sent back the following “I have been participating in the BA competition for several decades and whilst I have seen some close scores, never before has it come down to golds. Close indeed!!! Rod”
The Club score for the February round of the BA Postal League is 1633. We were against “Holbrook Archers A” Team. Unfortunately, we have not yet received their score, but will update as soon as it arrives.
